Patek Philippe Calatrava Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary
Since their founding in 1972, Cortina Watch has grown from a humble store in Singapore, into a dynamic and prominent retailer for fine luxury timepieces across Asia-Pacific. Today, they operate over 45 stores in markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand, as well as numerous developing markets in the regions. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cortina Watch’s founding as well as five decades of partnership with Patek Philippe, a special limited-edition watch has been created for the occasion. This year marks 90 years of the Calatrava's introduction and this new ref. 5057G has preserved both the design and movement of the Jubilee edition (ref. 5057R), which Cortina Watch and Patek Philippe chose to celebrate the store's 25th anniversary, back in 1997.The round 36.15mm case is made of 18k white gold with a 9.14mm height. It has very long protruding lugs and has been crafted to be humidity and dust protected. Mounted to the case is a prominent triple hobnail bezel, which is very reminiscent of a 1990’s aesthetic. The Calatrava is the only range in Patek Philippe’s collection to feature hand-guilloché, hobnail bezels. It differs from other options by having three rows of hobnailing on the bezel, instead of the usual two.On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases several jewels, gears, and a gold rotor engraved with a Calatrava cross. The commemorative inscription “Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Since 1972” has been inscribed directly as a transfer print to the sapphire crystal in a white font.It comes equipped with a knurled setting-crown, also embossed by the Calatrava cross. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 30 meters (98 feet).Time is exhibited on a charcoal grey sunburst dial with a black-gradient rim, and white transfer-printed Roman numerals. The dial has an asymmetrical layout with three sub-dials: a small seconds between the 4 and 5 o’clock hour markers, a date display with a cut-out moon-phase in its midst, and a power reserve spread out between 10 and 11 o’clock positions. This moonphase is on a contrasting blue disc with light grey colored stars and moon. While overall the dial is permeated with a metallic grey finish that grows darker as it stretches out towards the periphery. It also includes rhodium plated central pear-shaped hands.
