Patek Philippe Calatrava 24-Hour Travel Time

When the going sets to travel a second time-zone can become an essential feature for a timepiece. Many brands have crafted watches with GMT capability, but they each have their own particular features. The latest expansion to the Patek Philippe catalog is this new “Calatrava 24-Hour Travel Time” which aims at offering the convenience of dual time without all the standard pushers.The round 42 mm case is made of 18k rose gold with an overall polished finish. It has a very compact and slim profile with 10.2mm in thickness. Mounted to the case is an almost mirror-like gold bezel with a very circular and tilted design. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases several jewels and many hand crafted details such as circular graining, Côtes de Genève, chamfering, and a rotor decorated with circular graining and a Calatrava cross.It comes equipped with a knurled 3-position crown: winding, local time by one-hour increments in both directions, and standard time setting for all the indications on a 24h base. Unlike other Calatrava models this release has layered two tier lugs with a higher level of detail. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).Time is exhibited on a navy-blue dial with 18k rose gold applied Arabic numerals, divided by baton-style markers, while circling around the flange is a railroad style minute track with gold applied cabochon 5-minute markers. There is also a second circular form for the hour circle with a satin finish. Then cutting into that is a third circle with a rose-gilt outline, for the small seconds counter with a finely snailed interior.The 18k rose gold central syringe-shaped local hour and minute hands, the Arabic numerals, baton and cabochon markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating. There is also an open-worked syringe-shaped hand for the home hour.

The “Patek Philippe Calatrava 24-Hour Travel Time” (Ref#: 5224R-001) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 31-260 PS FUS 24H with 44 jewels, 240 components, and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a Gyromax® balance and Spiromax® hairspring in silicon. Power reserve can last up to 48 hours, when fully wound.Mounted on this watch is a navy-blue calfskin strap with a nubuck finish with contrasting cream hand stitchings, secured to the wrist by an 18k rose gold prong buckle.
