Patek Philippe Aquanaut Luce Annual Calendar

We have to venture back to 1996 to highlight when Patek Philippe’s patented annual calendar first debuted. Now this user-friendly complication has made its way into its first Aquanaut model ever, in the form of the recently released “Aquanaut Luce Annual Calendar”. In order to accomplish this feat the artisans at Patek Philippe had to develop a new automatic movement with an inverted calendar module. The octagonal-shaped 39.9mm case is made of 18k rose gold, while mounted with a bezel highlighted by an alternating polished and satin-brushed finish. In terms of thickness it measures in at 10.94mm and from lug-to-lug it adds up to 47.35mmOn the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a 21k gold central rotor adorned with the Calatrava cross. Housed inside is a movement with a stop-seconds functionality that can set the time to the nearest second. It comes equipped with four recessed pushers on the caseband to adjust calendar functions. Between a pair of them is a setting-crown embossed with the iconic Calatrava cross. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 30 meters (98 feet).Time is exhibited on a blue-gray dial embossed with the iconic checkered Aquanaut pattern. It features gold-applied Arabic numerals, while circling around the dial nearing the bezel is a white minute track. The annual calendar is spread out on three sub-dials: a day indicator at 3 o’clock, opposite to the current month at 9 o’clock, while aligned at noon is a moon phase aperture. The central sword shaped 18k rose gold hour/minute hands, Arabic numerals and the thick hour index markers have all been fitted with a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a white date aperture with black numerals and a gold framed outline at the 6 o’clock position.
