Back in 2018 marked when Patek Philippe first introduced an “Aquanaut” with chronograph functions. For obvious reasons it was a hit and has continued to expand within the brand's luxurious catalog. Previous releases included stainless-steel and white gold, while at this year's Watches & Wonders 2023, we’ve been greeted by the first ever rose gold “Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph”.
The octagonal-shaped 42.2mm case is made of 18k rose gold, while mounted with a bezel highlighted by an alternating polished and satin-brushed finish. Housed inside is a flyback chronograph movement with a classic column wheel and vertical disk clutch that prevents a rebound of the hand in either direction whenever the chronograph is engaged. 
On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. This is the same caliber movement found in the “Nautilus” 5980 model. It features a 21k gold central rotor adorned with the Calatrava cross.
It comes equipped with two rectangular push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions. Between them is a setting-crown embossed with the same iconic Calatrava cross. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 120 meters (393 feet).
Time is exhibited on a brown dial with a black gradient effect, embossed with the iconic checkered Aquanaut pattern. It features gold-applied Arabic numerals, while circling around the flange are thick white index markers, followed by smaller white minute markers and in-between those are even smaller seconds markings.
There is a small seconds sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position with white Arabic numerals, index markers, and an equally white hand steadily ticking away.
The central rose gold hour/minutes hand, Arabic numerals and the thick hour index markers have all been fitted with a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. A white date aperture with black numerals can also be seen at the 3 o’clock position.
Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph
The “Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph” (Ref#: 5968R-001) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement, caliber CH 28-520 C with 32 jewels, 308 parts, 14 bridges and 28,800 Vph. Equipped with a 21k gold central rotor, a Gyromax® balance and a Spiromax® balance spring. Power reserve can last up to 55 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is a brown rubber strap with a checkered strip pattern similar to the watch dial running down its center, while secured to the wrist by a rose goldl fold over clasp with a Patek Philippe logo engraving.
