Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Travel Time
One of the most impressive new releases at Watches & Wonders was thanks to Patek Philippe. For the first time ever they’ve combined their patented Annual Calendar with their Travel Time system, which provides a second time zone. In order to do so they also developed a new caliber movement that was issued 8 patents. The “Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Travel Time” is an impressive feat of mechanics with a vintage inspired case and overall design. The 41mm Calatrava-style case is made of 18k white gold with a polished finish, while its caseband is rimmed with a Clous de Paris hobnail guilloched pattern. In order to allow enough space to add these adornments, Patek had to provide this case with a height of 11.7mm. Discreetly tucked away on these flanks are also the small pushers that allow to adjust the Annual Calendar. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases several purple jewels and a micro-rotor engraved with the Patek seal, in the form of a Calatrava cross. It comes equipped with a knurled setting-crown that the user can also use by pulling the crown out to the middle position and then turning it clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the local-time hour hand in one-hour increments. These adjustments can be done in either direction without affecting the rate of the movement. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).Time is exhibited on a textured, charcoal gray dial with applied 18k white gold Arabic numerals with a beige interior coating. While circling around the flange is black gradient rim with a railroad-motif minute track. The annual calendar has been arranged with two windows to showcase the current weekday and month, underneath the 12 o’clock position. While at the 6 o’clock position is a small-seconds counter, which includes a Moonphase indicator and a date window within it.As for the travel time feature it is articulated by a hollow skeletonized central 12h hand to point out a second time zone, plus two day/date indicators, one for local time, and one for home time. The white gold sharp-tipped rectangular “syringe style” hands and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a beige luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
