Patek Philippe 5712/1R Nautilus
In 2006 during the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, marked the first edition of this iconic model with complications. Since then Patek Philippe has made more complicated pieces with varying alloys and color schemes. Now for 2022 the collection has grown once again with the new “Patek Philippe 5712/1R Nautilus”.The 40 mm case is made of 18k rose gold with an overall vertical brushed finish. Despite all the complications packed inside it measures in at a height of only 8.52 mm. Mounted to the case is a brushed octagonal bezel with polished accents. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a 21k gold central rotor and oscillating weight adorned with a Calatrava cross. The caseband includes very discreet push pieces that allow the user to reset the various complications. It also includes a knurled screw-down crown embossed with the Calatrava cross. Water-resistance can reach up to 60 meters (196 feet). Time is exhibited on a chocolate brown dial horizontally embossed with the standard horizontal embossed bars, followed by gold applied hour indices, and a ring of white printed minute index markers. On the upper-half is a power reserve indicator aligned with the 10 and 11 o’clock spots. While on the lower-half are two snailed sub-dials: a small seconds that takes over the 4 and 5 o’clock positions and excludes those gold indexes, plus to its left is a larger date sub-dial with a moon phase in its midst. The layout may be unconventional, but despite that this dial is very legible. Just like the other latest releases by Patek Philippe this Nautilus also has a black-gradient effect on the dial that becomes darker as it nears the rims. The central 18k rose gold hour/minutes hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a green luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.
