Panerai Submersible Goldtech Orocarbo
Despite the enduring pandemic the horology industry has managed to move along with the “Watches & Wonders Shanghai 2020” exhibition. Amid the celebrations Panerai has released their new “Submersible Goldtech Orocarbo”, embracing a chance to showcase innovative materials in the brands repertoire that seldom get to shine as much as they should. Its Panerai’s original take on gold with several twists thrown in the mix.
The 44mm is made of the unique Goldtech™ material with a brushed finish, while on the flip-side we encounter a screw-on dodecagonal-shaped titanium DLC coated case back, which has been engraved with Panerai’s iconic diver figure, as well as technical details. Mounted to the case is a Goldtech™ and Carbotech anti-clockwise rotating bezel with a graduated scale.
This proprietary alloy Goldtech™ consists of gold mixed with a percentage of copper that imbues the material with a rich and subtle red hue. It also contains platinum, which attributes the material with the capacity to prevent oxidizing and expanding its overall lifetime. In terms of looks the end result is a mid-way between the traditional yellow and rose gold tones.
It also come equipped with Panerai’s iconic crown protector with the with movable latch lock. The wide and stubby lugs also give more room for this proprietary alloy to shine, while also providing a comfortable wrist fit. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 300 meters (1000 feet).
Time is exhibited on a sun-brushed black dial with dotted hour index markers and rectangular round edged hour index markers for the 6 and 12 o’clock positions. There is a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position and a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position.
On the dial both the the word “SUBMERSIBLE” on the upper-half, as well as “300m/1000ft” have been inscribed in a goldtech tone matching the cases hue. Both the Goldtech™ hour and minute hands, each 15-second marker of the sub-seconds, plus all the hour index markers have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
