Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa Regatta

Like so many other events worldwide, the “America’s Cup World Series, Sardegna-Cagliari 2020” has been postponed. But, the Panerai “Luna Rossa” collection associated with this historic yacht sailing competition, specifically the “Luna Rossa Sailing Team”, is still available. So, lets cast our sails ahead and set our horizons on smoother currents that hopefully await once these waves settle.

First up we have a pair of models in a 44mm case made of titanium with a black DLC coating; while on the flip-side the screw on case back has been engraved with a yacht and the “LUNA ROSSA 36th AMERICA’s CUP” inscription.

Unlike previous these models have kept smooth bezel without and extra features, opting instead to further utilize the dial space.

They both come equipped with Panerai’s patented crown guard, while the chronograph version also features two push-pieces on it’s left-side. Opting to place the pushers on the left-side may disrupt the natural use of thumbs to operate the chrono functions, but provide a more even case look. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assist with a water-resistance of 100 meters (330 feet).

Both versions have time exhibited on a dark grey dial with hour index markers and Arabic numerals. The GMT version (PAM01036) also includes the Arabic numerals: 6, 9 and 12; plus a sub-dial with a red-hand, aligned at 9 o’clock and a date aperture at 3 o’clock.

While the chronograph version (PAM01037) only used the Arabic numerals: 6 and 12. It includes two sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds at 9 o’clock. Circling the periphery of the dial is also a red tachymeter scale.The central hand, Arabic numerals and index markers on both editions (as well as the Regatta version) have all been treated with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.

The “Officine Panerai Luna Rossa GMT” (Ref#: PAM01036) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber P.9010/GMT with 31 jewels, 13 3/4 lignes, 199 components and 28,800 Vph. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 72 hours (3 days), when fully wound.

Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono Flyback

The “Officine Panerai Luna Rossa Chrono Flyback” (Ref#: PAM01037) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber P.9100 with 37 jewels, 13 3/4 lignes, 302 components and 28,800 Vph. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 72 hours (3 days), when fully wound.

For those in search of a heftier option with a lighter case! Panerai has released a 47mm version made out of carbo-tech, which is a proprietary carbon fibre-reinforced polymer. Besides carbotech offering an ultralight weight material that also very scratch resistant. This option is also linked to the watches theme, since the hull of Luna Rossa’s AC75 ship is made of carbon fiber.

Similar to the other models, time here is also told on a grey dial with a textured look that attempts to mimic a slight diaphanous look, such of a sails fabric cloth. It includes sandwich-style hour index markers and the Arabic numerals: 6 and 12. There are two sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds at 9 o’clock. Circling the periphery of the dial is a red regatta countdown function, specifically designed for the world of competitive sailing.
