Panerai Luminor Chrono Flyback

Panerai has just released a pair of limited editions of their “Luminor Chrono Flyback”. They both share a military color scheme, although there is no need to have such affinities to wear these watches, but a large wrist would provide a better fit. The green “Verde Militare” option is an online exclusive, while the black ceramic version can be acquired at boutiques and independent retailers. The 44mm cushion-shaped case is available in either polished steel (PAM01296) or black ceramic (PAM01298) both with a solid screw-down case back that have been simply engraved with technical indications. Each watch case is mounted by a bezel matching that versions alloy and case finishing. They come equipped with two pushers on the left-side to operate the chronograph. The central stop-second of this flyback function can be reset to zero and restarted with a single press of the pusher at 8 o’clock. Then once the chronograph has been stopped, this same pusher can swiftly return both hands to zero. Both also include the iconic Luminor Marina crown protection with the locking gear lever that secures the setting-crown in place. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assist with water-resistance reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on Panerai’s characteristic sandwich dials in either a green “Verde Militare” or a sun-brushed black dial both with white hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 6 and 12; followed by a ring of smaller white printed minute index markers, with slightly bigger markings for each 5-minute increment. Encircling the flange of the dial is a nautical tachymeter scale that allows the measurement of speed for any object over the course of a defined distance. There are two sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. Both models despite their differing color-scheme used orange hands for the chronograph seconds, 12-hour counter, and the central steel seconds tip. Despite all the similarities each watch has its own overall vibe. A military theme can be clearly identified given Panerai’s historic ties, especially on the green “Militare” (which translates to “Military”) option, while the black dial with its dark monochromatic palette could be linked to “night ops” operations. The central hands of each version, as well as the sub-dial hands, hour index markers and Arabic numerals have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
