Panerai Luminor BiTempo
As some of us rush to enjoy a quick end of summer holiday, being able to track two time-zones might come in handy. Well for all you Panerai lovers behold, the new Luminor “BiTempo”, which stands for “DualTime” in Italian. They’ve even added a power-reserve indicator on the dial, which along with the GMT hand are highlighted in a very subtle and effective style. The 44mm case is made of stainless-steel with a satin-brushed finish, while mounted to the case is a mirror-like steel polished fixed bezel. These contrasting elements provide a pleasing juxtaposition that manages to enhance each part's presence. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Despite packing so many useful complications this model manages to keep a small diameter, similar to a time-only option. It also comes equipped with short stubby lugs with exposed screws, and the iconic extra reinforced Panerai crown guard, featuring a detachable security lever. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 300 meters (1,000 feet).Time is exhibited on either a blue sun-ray finish or matte black dial with hour index markers and the Arabic numerals: 6, 9, and 12. All these elements appear as cut-aways on Panerai’s iconic “sandwich” layered dial. Except for the upper-half “LUMINOR PANERAI” and “BiTempo” inscriptions, which have been printed directly on the dial.It also includes a small seconds sub-dial aligned with the 9 o’clock position, while a power-reserve indicator can be seen between the 4 and 5 o’clock spots. This power-reserve includes an “Ore” inscription, which is Italian for “Hours”. Plus this indicator and the arrow tip of the GMT hand, both add an extra cyan color, to its overall palette. The central sword-shaped steel hands, hour index markers, Arabic numerals, sub-seconds, and power-reserve, have all been fitted with a green luminescent coating. Except the second time-zone and the power-reserve arrow tips, which shine with a blue hue. There is also a date window at the 3 o’clock position.
