Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph
In 2018, Oris took a nostalgic leap into their archives, resurfacing a 50-year-old divers' watch with some modern enhancements, rebranding it as the "Divers Sixty-Five." That initial release came encased in bronze in a limited-edition that paid tribute to the trailblazing Carl Brashear, the first African-American master diver in the U.S. Navy. Fast forward to 2023, and this beloved watch makes a triumphant return, this time encased in steel, and now available as a regular production model. This contemporary addition to the Divers Sixty-Five family maintains the collection's mid-century-inspired aesthetic with a refined monochromatic dial design, and the option of a metal bracelet or a sustainably sourced black Cervo Volante deer leather strap. The 43mm multi-piece case is made of stainless-steel with an overall vertically brushed finish, while nicely framed by graceful sweeping lugs. Mounted to the case is a robust unidirectional rotatable steel bezel with a black aluminum insert, featuring a 60-minute scale. On the flip-side is a steel screwed-on caseback that features an engraving of the Oris emblem. It comes equipped with two vintage-style chrono push-pieces that operate the chronograph functions, plus a knurled screw-in security crown placed between them. Topped by a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on its underside. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a black dial with round hour index markers (except at the 6 and 12 o’clock positions); while circling around the periphery is a ring of small seconds/minutes markings, with larger markers for each five-minute increment. There are two sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds at 9 o’clock. The central hours/minutes hands, sub-seconds hands, and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
