Lots of brands embrace social causes and many would argue climate change is at the forefront, so Oris is ready to help fight back. Their latest partnership is with “Coulson Aviation” which are known as global leaders in aerial firefighting. To represent such noble endeavors encompassing nature and human life, Oris has chosen their “Big Crown ProPilot” series. But, what really sets this release apart is its innovative carbon fiber case, plus the flame inspired gradient dial.As wildfires become an ever more recurring phenomenon, there is a global need to learn how to manage these seasonal menaces. Workers at Coulson Aviation are working towards that goal with cutting edge technology and techniques. As their website states: “As the only aerial firefighting company operating both fixed-wing aircraft and Type 1 helicopters, Coulson Aviation (USA) Inc. is fully equipped to carry out aerial firefighting across the globe. With our proprietary technology, multiple aircraft types, and highly experienced attack crews we can fight fires on multiple continents simultaneously. We are world leaders in aerial firefighting innovation, providing meticulously serviced aircraft in order to safely and efficiently attack fires 24/7.” For those interested in supporting Coulson Aviation, you can learn more at this link. The 41mm multi-piece case is made of a carbon fiber, high-grade polymer weave created by a patented 3D printing process. This technique was originally developed by ETH Zurich University (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) for the aerospace industry.Mounted to the case is a fixed fluted titanium bezel with a gray PVD coating, knurled with a slight diagonal tilt. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases some jewels, gold gears, and an openworked steel rotor engraved with the Oris shield logo. The titanium rim features a “COULSON LIMITED EDITION” inscription and the unique number for each model. It comes equipped with a titanium screw-in crown, embossed with the Oris logo. The prominent thick carbon fiber lugs offer a textured finish that contrast well with the bezels inclination. All topped by a double-domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a gradient “fire” themed dial that runs between orange and red with applied and raised Arabic numerals, followed by a ring of minute indexes with larger markers for each 5-minute increment. This red/orange dial is clearly inspired by the flames that Coulson Aviation has made their mission to extinguish and mitigate worldwide. The central hands, Arabic numerals and hourly index markers have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a dark black date window with white numerals at the 6 o’clock position.
