Oris Aquis Date Yangtze Jiangtun Limited Edition

Oris Aquis Date Yangtze Jiangtun Limited Edition

Oris continues its mission of environmental stewardship with a special edition of the Aquis Date dedicated to the critically endangered Yangtze finless porpoise. Created in partnership with the Changjiang Conservation Foundation, this limited edition of 1,249 pieces supports one of the most ambitious freshwater wildlife recovery efforts in China, combining refined design updates with a compelling conservation message. The stainless-steel case of the Aquis Date Yangtze Jiangtun measures 43.5mm in diameter, with a lug-to-lug of 51mm and a height of 13.1mm. The structure retains the robust silhouette of the Aquis line while incorporating recent updates such as shorter, more ergonomic lugs and a slightly thinner bezel. A mix of brushed and polished surfaces gives the case a modern, high-performance presence on the wrist. The screw-down caseback is fully closed and decorated with a relief engraving of the Yangtze finless porpoise swimming in a stylized wave pattern. The edition number “out of 1,249” is also engraved. This sealed caseback underscores the watch’s tool-watch credibility, while offering a unique visual tribute to the porpoise itself.A screw-down crown is flanked by gently tapering crown guards. A double-domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective treatment sits flush within the unidirectional bezel, which now features a dark grey tungsten insert instead of ceramic. Water‑resistance can reach up to 300 meters (1,000 feet).
The standout feature of this Aquis Date is its blue-green mother-of-pearl dial, chosen to evoke the iridescent hues of the Yangtze River where the finless porpoise lives. A wave pattern, inspired by the ultrasonic clicks used by the porpoise for echolocation, is subtly printed across the surface, adding a layered aquatic texture to the luminous natural material.Applied shield-shaped indices line the dial, echoing the design updates of recent Aquis models. The alpha-style hour and minute hands are bold yet sleek, matched by a lollipop seconds hand. A white date window at 6 o’clock (though not fully harmonized with the dial) adds practical functionality without overpowering the overall design.Lume is generously applied to all three hands and the hour markers using Super-LumiNova, ensuring visibility in deep water or dim light. The contrast of the bright lume against the shifting blue-green dial creates a dramatic nighttime legibility.
