Omega X Swatch Speedmaster MoonSwatch 1965

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Speedmaster passing NASA’s rigorous flight qualification tests, Omega and Swatch have unveiled the MoonSwatch 1965. This special edition pays tribute to the legendary ref. 105.003, the very model that survived NASA’s extreme trials and became the first officially certified watch for spaceflight. While staying true to the MoonSwatch’s signature Bioceramic construction, this release introduces vintage-inspired details, an inverse monochrome colorway, and an unexpected mechanical twist in the chronograph function. Set to launch on March 1, 2025, exactly six decades after Omega’s triumph, this non-limited edition offers enthusiasts a fresh take on the MoonSwatch while celebrating one of the most significant milestones in watch history.

The Omega × Swatch Speedmaster MoonSwatch 1965 follows the familiar MoonSwatch design while introducing subtle refinements to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Speedmaster passing NASA’s rigorous flight qualification tests. The case retains its 42mm diameter with a thickness of 13.25mm, closely mirroring the original Speedmaster proportions. It is constructed from Swatch’s proprietary Bioceramic material, finished in a neutral gray tone to contrast with the white dial. The signature asymmetrical shape with integrated crown guards remains, preserving the Speedmaster’s iconic profile. At the back, the case features the standard MoonSwatch mission text, but with a new commemorative engraving referencing the NASA testing milestone of March 1, 1965. The battery cover continues the planetary theme seen on previous editions, though the specific design for this release has yet to be revealed. The watch is topped with a domed bio-sourced crystal, designed to evoke the classic hesalite look of vintage Speedmasters while offering a durable alternative. On the right side, the Bioceramic pushers and signed crown maintain the signature layout, ensuring easy operation of the chronograph functions. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).
Time is exhibited on a stark white dial, a departure from the black dial of the original Speedmaster ref. 105.003 that passed NASA’s tests. This clean and high-contrast design is paired with black baton hands and a vintage-inspired applied Omega x Swatch logo, a nod to the classic Speedmaster aesthetic. The dial layout remains familiar, with three sub-dials for the chronograph function and running seconds, all printed with bold black markings for optimal legibility.
A key design element is the modified chronograph sub-dials, where the 30-minute and 12-hour counters display “19” and “65” instead of “60” and “10.” This subtle yet meaningful touch commemorates the 1965 NASA certification and the watch’s 60th anniversary. The bottom sub-dial at 6 o’clock remains unchanged, displaying the running seconds, but Omega and Swatch have altered the movement’s chronograph function, causing the counters to count 19 hours and 65 minutes instead of the standard 12-hour and 30-minute format. At the end of 64 minutes, the chronograph hands perform a “lap of honor”, a full rotation before advancing, and creating a visually dynamic tribute to the Speedmaster’s historic legacy.
To enhance readability in low-light conditions, Super-LumiNova has been applied to key elements of the dial. The numerals “19,” “65,” and “60” on the sub-dials glow with blue-emission lume, setting them apart from the standard green-emission lume used on the hour markers and hands. This clever application of lume not only boosts nighttime visibility but also adds an interactive element that reinforces the anniversary theme.
