Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer Chronograph
Space travel is no longer a tale of fiction, ever since a few billionaires began selling trips past our gravitational orbit. The recently released “Omega’s Speedmaster X- 33 Marstimer” was developed in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA). As the brand stated “It takes a special kind of movement to power a watch for two planets and OMEGA’s 5622 is fit for task, handling all applications with speed and ease.” Those prepared for lift off now have a great watch option with a wide range of tools. The 45mm case is made of grade 2 titanium with an overall vertically brushed finish. It seems quite a hefty piece and measures in at 48mm (lug to lug) with a height of 14.7mm. Mounted to the case is a bi-directional rotating titanium bezel with an oxalic anodized aluminum insert in a Mars-red color. On the flip-side is a titanium case back inscribed with: the model’s name, the European Space Agency (ESA) logo, plus their “TESTED AND QUALIFIED” guarantee. The center portion features Speedmaster’s iconic seahorse logo. It is also double-layered to allow the alarm to have more room to reverberate. It comes equipped with two small rectangular pushers to operate the chronograph functions. In between them is a uniquely ring-shaped setting crown, which really invokes sci-fi themes, and ends embossed with the Greek letter for Omega. The opposite side of the case includes two more pushers to navigate among all the display options and switch between the multiple functionalities (described further below). All topped by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Water-resistance can last up to 30 meters (98 feet). Time is exhibited on an LCD display in black that appears to be carved into the case in gradual layers. The high-precision quartz movement allows swapping between multiple digital and analog displays. There are also white rectangular hour index markers, followed by a ring of white minute markers, on a sloped flange. It includes all the applications available on the original “Speedmaster Skywalker X33”, like MET (Mission Elapsed Time), PET (Phase Elapsed Time), perpetual calendars, and alarms. But in addition to all that this updated version has an innovative solar compass capable of finding true north on planet Earth and Mars. It's even able to track the rover’s mission on the red planet, which many believe may lead it to be a possible alternative to life on Earth. For those dreaming of Outer Space travel, this model features an MTC function that can track Mars time at the prime meridian, which allows it to adjust to the fact that a day on Mars is 39 minutes longer than on Earth. The central sword shaped hands, hour index markers, bezel scale, and special dial display, can all emit a green luminescent shine, for an enhanced visibility. The hour/minute hands appears in half black and white, while the seconds hands follows a black to that Mars-inspired red hematite gradient.
