Omega Speedmaster Super Racing

Over at Omega they continue to push horology forward with innovative technology. The newly released “Omega Speedmaster Super Racing” is their first watch to include the new Spirate System, which houses a patent-pending spiral, made from a silicon (Si 14) wafer by using a manufacturing process called DRIE (Deep Reactive Ion Etching) that allows it to achieve a certified precision of only 0/+2 seconds a day. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, then take a look at the motorsports themed grill dial. The 44.25 mm asymmetrical case is made of stainless-steel with a mix of brushed surfaces and polished accents. Mounted to the case is a fixed black ceramic bezel with yellow “grand feu” enamel tachymeter scale. It measures in at 50 m from to lug to lug and 14.9 mm in terms of thickness. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features both barrels exposed and highlighted with red font, while the oscillating weight is decorated with Geneva waves in arabesque. This movement is resistant to magnetic fields reaching up to 15,000 gauss. It comes equipped with two piston-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions with a knurled setting-crown in-between them and embossed with the Omega logo. All topped by a box-shaped scratch resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (167 feet).Time is exhibited on a black dial with applied markers embedded with yellow accents, while circling around the flange are a series of white printed minutes/seconds markings, known as the racing style minute-track. The majority of the dial is permeated with a new honeycomb pattern, which also recalls a car grill. There are two snailed sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock and a small seconds with a yellow and black striped hand. This same yellow gradient is seen on the chronograph hand. The 12-hour counter can also serve as a second time zone. The central sword-shaped hands and diamond-polished black arrowhead indices have all been filled with a new and exclusive Super-LumiNova that emits a yellow glow. There is also a date window with yellow numerals at the 6 o’clock position. Omega placed a stylish reminder of the >15’000 GAUSS 10 year-anniversary, by using the same Speedmaster logo font on the “10” numeral, which appears once a month.
