Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Moonshine Gold
Omega has once again refreshed the looks of its iconic “Speedmaster”. This time around they’ve used their proprietary Moonshine™ gold to craft two new options for their celebrated Moonwatch. Potential buyers can opt between a gold polished dial with black PVD-treated sub-dials, which earns it the charismatic “Panda” dial moniker; or a full green PVD-coated version with various Moonshine™ gold elements shining on through.The 42mm case is made of 18k Moonshine™ gold with a mix of polished accents and overall brushed surface and casebands finish. Mounted to the case is a gold bezel with either a black or green ceramic insert, which features a tachymeter scale in gold with “Dot Over Ninety” lay-out.On the flip-side is a transparent sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Engraved along the gold periphery portion is the inscription “THE FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON”.
It comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions with a setting-crown in-between them. All topped by a box-type sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance on these watches can reach up to 50 meters (167 feet).
Time is exhibited on two distinct dial options: an all green PVD coated dial, except for the gold used for all the numerals and index markers;
or a Moonshine™ gold dial with black PVD coated “Panda” sub-dials, and solid gold hour index markers that also feature a black coating; while circling around in the inner flange are black printed minute index markers. Omega has also tried to keep this dial similar to its original inspiration by including an applied Ω logo and the old vintage font for the “Speedmaster” inscription.
There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock; a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock; and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. The central gold (or black PVD coated) hours/minutes hands and small tips of the hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminous coating, for an enhanced legibility.
