Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi
To celebrate the sailing partnership between Omega and Swiss sailing team Alinghi, the legendary “Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon” has been given a truly innovative makeover design.
This renowned team for winning the America’s Cup twice in recent times, was previously linked to Audemars Piguet and HYT. But, the switch to Omega was announced in 2019 and the their first joint creation has now arrived.
The 44.25mm case is made of black ceramic with a transparent case back that showcases the special black bridge Omega has equipped the caliber 1861 with for this edition. Also engraved on the case back is the inscription "Alinghi" and " Dark Side of the Moon".
Mounted to the case is a black ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale, with the word “TACHYMÈTRE” in red font. It comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions with a setting-crown in-between them.
This watch model manages to be a hybrid between the “Dark Side of the Moon” and the “Moonwatch” due to its hand-wound caliber. All topped by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).
Time is exhibited on a blackened dial with overall “carbon design” and a portion of “honeycomb” textures, which is inspired by the Alinghi TF35 catamaran watercraft. It features steel applied hour indexes that have small red markers, followed by white printed minute index markings.
There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. Also includes a 4-minute and 5-minute countdown function in red on the 3 o’clock subdial, while the traditional hand of the 6 o’clock sub-dial has been replaced by a sandblasted and anodized aluminum disc, which rotates with the Alinghi logo transferred in red.
