Omega Introduces Two New Steel Speedmaster 38mm Models

Omega Introduces Two New Steel Speedmaster 38mm Models

Omega’s refreshed Speedmaster 38mm collection extends beyond the black Moonwatch-inspired model with two stainless-steel references that explore a brighter side of the compact automatic chronograph. Sharing the same redesigned proportions and mechanical architecture, the new silver-and-grey and white-and-blue editions give the Speedmaster 38mm two distinctly different personalities while retaining the collection’s more versatile approach to the famous chronograph.

The Omega Speedmaster 38mm references 324.30.38.50.02.003 and 324.30.38.50.04.001 are housed in stainless-steel cases measuring 38mm in diameter, 14.75mm thick and 44.96mm from lug to lug. Both retain the familiar asymmetrical Speedmaster architecture, complete with lyre-shaped twisted lugs and partially protected chronograph controls. The silver-dial model is framed by a warm grey aluminum tachymeter bezel, while the white-dial reference introduces a blue ceramic bezel with its tachymeter scale rendered in white enamel.

Around the back, both references feature screw-in stainless-steel casebacks stamped with the Speedmaster name and the collection’s familiar Seahorse medallion. Unlike many contemporary Omega models, the solid construction keeps the automatic movement concealed, reinforcing the functional character of the Speedmaster while maintaining a direct visual connection to the collection’s historical caseback design.

The crown is positioned between two chronograph pushers, providing control over the time, date and chronograph functions. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment protects the dial, combining contemporary scratch resistance with a profile inspired by vintage Speedmaster crystals. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).

Reference 324.30.38.50.02.003 features an opaline silvery PVD-coated dial paired with a warm grey bezel, creating the more understated of the two configurations. Sedna Gold PVD-coated hands and baton-style hour markers introduce warmer accents, while brown details appear within the chronograph indications.

Reference 324.30.38.50.04.001 takes a cooler approach with a lacquered white dial surrounded by its blue ceramic bezel, complemented by blue CVD-coated hands and markers.

Both watches feature applied baton hour markers and the classic three-register chronograph arrangement, with Omega replacing the oval counters of the previous Speedmaster 38mm generation with traditional round sub-dials.

A date aperture appears at 6 o’clock, distinguishing these references from the black no-date model, while the contrasting metallic treatments of the hands and markers give each version its own visual identity.

Super-LumiNova is applied to the hour markers and primary hands on both references, maintaining low-light visibility while preserving their more polished character. On the silver model, the luminous indications contrast with the warm combination of silvery, grey, brown and Sedna Gold tones, whereas the white version uses its blue details against the bright lacquered surface to create a crisper and more graphic appearance.

Mounted on these watches is a stainless-steel five-link bracelet inspired by the contemporary Moonwatch bracelet, featuring predominantly brushed surfaces contrasted by two narrow polished inner links.
