Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Dark Grey GMT

The latest addition to Omega's Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M collection shares the same design and features as the “Planet Ocean Deep Black” which was already a large ceramic diver watch with an additional GMT complication. However, what distinguishes the new “Planet Ocean Dark Grey” is the utilization of a novel material for its case and other components, namely silicon nitride ceramic, also known as Si3N4. This marks the first time that this specific ceramic is being used on such a large scale, and it can be observed on the case, the NAIAD LOCK caseback, and the bezel insert. The 45.5mm gray case is made of silicon nitride ceramic (Si3N4) with a mix of brushed and polished finishes. It has a rather hefty appearance measuring in at 51.5mm lug-to-lug with a thickness of 17.4mm, despite a weight of only 107 grams, thanks to the use of ceramic.Mounted to the case is a grade 5 titanium uni-directional bezel with a gray silicon nitride ceramic insert, imprinted with a light gray 60-minute diving scale. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition and NAIAD LOCK caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It comes equipped with plates and bridges in grade 5 titanium. It includes a conical helium escape valve aligned at the 10 o’clock position. It comes equipped with a screw-down crown, embossed with the Omega logo. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 600 meters (1968 feet).Time is exhibited on a sandblasted grade 5 titanium dial with white hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 6, 9,  and 12 in dark gray. The encircling periphery has a white printed railroad-type minute track, divided by single indices or numerals for every 5-minute increment. While further out on the inner flange is a 24-hour scale.Despite an overall monochromatic color scheme a series of orange accents appear as font for the “Seamaser”, “GMT”, and “600m / 2000ft” inscriptions, plus the tips of the chrono and GMT hand in traveler style that uses the 24-hour inner bezel to keep track of an additional time-zone.The broad-arrow style anthracite-coated central hands and the hour index-markers have all been fitted with a Super-LumiNova coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a white date window at the 3 o’clock position.
