Omega Seamaster Diver 300M “James Bond” Platinum-Gold Numbered Edition
Back in September of 2019 we were greeted by a limited edition James Bond themed timepiece by Omega. Now we got an almost identical update, but crafted out of the much more luxurious platinum and gold alloys. Also unlike the previous edition, this one will be numbered instead of limited in production. Although eventually there will be cease in releases, so those willing to take on this “mission” should get armed and ready for the adventure.
The 42mm case is made of the platinum with a mixture of polished and brushed finishes; while on the flipside we encounter a see-through sapphire crystal exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner works of the mechanical movement. The case back crystal has also been engraved with the Bond family coat of arm: “Orbis Non Sufficit”,
which translates form latin to “The world does not suffice” or “The world is not enough”; which recalls one of the franchises most celebrated original songs, composed by the band Garbage.
Mounted to the case is a black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel, enhanced by a platinum diving scale in positive relief. Also standing out amongst the steel casing is a special platinum-gold plate engraved with each Numbered edition number for this series, as well as the “007” logo.
It comes equipped with a screw-in setting crown, plus a helium escape valve aligned with at the 10 o’clock position. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 300 meters 984 feet).
Time is exhibited on a black PVD dial with a spiral-brushed gun barrel design and 9mm bullet head at the center; which is an iconic image associated to the “James Bond” franchise.
Reading time is established via 18k white gold applied hour index markers, followed by white printed minute index, circling around the periphery of the dial. A special surprise features found on this timepiece is the secret signature number 50, which is revealed in the dark on the luminescent material of the 10 o’clock hour-marker. It is intended to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.
The ”Seamaster” inscription has been highlighted by a red-font on the upper-half of the dial; which synched up well with the red-tip central seconds hand. There is also a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position. The central hour/minute 18k white gold and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
