Omega Seamaster Diver 300M "Beijing 2022" Edition

We’re in 2021 and if all goes as planned Tokyo will be hosting last years “2020 Olympics”, for reasons we all know too well. Meanwhile as these plans are in limbo, Omega has released next year’s “Beijing 2022” Olympics edition. As the games official timekeeper this was expected, but due to COVID-19 although these watches are certain, the events they are linked to have yet to be seen. Now let’s take a look at the new “Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer Beijing 2022” and manage our expectations until further notice. The 42mm case is made of stainless-steel with a combination of brushed surfaces and polished accents. It comes equipped with a screw-in setting crown, plus a conical helium escape valve aligned at the 10 o’clock position. The overall Seamaster design has also retained its signature lyre-shaped lugs. But, this model does introduce some differentiating changes compared to past releases.Mounted to this “Beijing 2022” special edition is a new 12-sided bezel crafted out of grade 5 titanium with a 60-minute diving scale in a positive relief by applying a laser-ablating process. Unlike the usual ceramic bezels Omega has typically used, this less contrasting look draws more attention to the center dial. Another novelty on this edition can be found on the flip-side. Instead of a sapphire exhibition caseback, we find a solid steel caseback decorated with a stamped “Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022” emblem. Omega has provided its “NAIAD LOCK” to guarantee this inscription always gets properly displayed. Time is exhibited on a blue ceramic (ZrO2) dial with a laser engraved wave pattern, but unlike previous editions they have used a different tone of blue and added a sunray-brushed decoration.  It features white round dotted hour index markers, single rectangle markers for the 3 and 9 o’clock positions and a double rectangle marker for the 12 o’clock spot. While circling alongside the inner flange of the dial are portions of white printed railroad-type minute index markers. Keeping with the Olympic theme of this edition, five of the applied index markers (respectively at 2, 4, 8, 10 and 12 o’clock) have been colored: red, green, yellow, blue and black; like the iconic Olympic Rings. The central steel skeleton hands and their index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture at the 6 o’clock position
