Omega Seamaster 300M Chronograph Tantalum
A unique material that Omega debuted back in 1993, which despite its confirmed appeal has been scarcely seen since is now back! Tantalum is an odd metal mostly used for electrolytic capacitors with a distinctive blu-grey color. Omega has took this unique alloy, plus titanium, and their patented Sedna™ gold to release a tri-metal “Seamaster 300M Chronograph” version of the Pierce Brosnan, James Bond era diver watch, in a numbered edition. The 44mm case is made up of a unique tri-tone mixture: titanium, tantalum, and Sedna™ gold. This unusual mixture of alloys, which also extended to the dial and bracelet is undoubtedly the major differentiating factor that distinguishes it from previous Seamaster releases.
On the flip-side we encounter a transparent case back that allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. A transferred logo of the iconic Seamaster “seahorse” has been etched on the sapphire crystal case back.Mounted to the case is a tantalum unidirectional rotating bezel, engraved with a 60-minute scale. Each model will feature a Sedna™ gold plate, underneath the helium escape valve with its unique sequential number. Also comes equipped with two push-pieces on the right side of the case for the chronograph functions and a screw-in crown in between them, all made of Sedna™ gold; while to the left side of the case aligned with the 10 o’clock position is the aforementioned helium escape valve. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet).Time is exhibited on q blue ceramic dial that has been laser engraved with wave patterns. These wave ripples provide a significant contrast due to their unique color of tantalum, which appears as a grey metal with a bluish tint.
It features white round dotted hour index markers, single rectangle markers for the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions and a double rectangle marker for the 12 o’clock spot; all outlined with Sedna™ gold.
Circling alongside the inner flange of the dial are white printed minute index markers. It also includes two sub-dials with the Sedna™ gold outlining : a 12-hour counter aligned at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. The central Sedna™ gold skeleton hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture at the 6 o’clock position.
