Omega Constellation Observatory Collection

Omega Constellation Observatory Collection

Omega revisits one of its most historically significant collections with the Constellation Observatory, a refined dress watch that reconnects the brand with its chronometric heritage. Drawing inspiration from the celebrated mid-century Constellation models, the Omega Constellation Observatory marks the return of the iconic “pie-pan” dial, reinterpreted through modern materials, proprietary alloys, and contemporary movement technology. More than a nostalgic exercise, this new collection represents a deliberate effort to re-establish Omega’s presence in the high-end dress watch segment while maintaining the technical rigor associated with its Master Chronometer standards.

The Constellation Observatory is presented in a 39.4mm case that balances classic proportions with modern execution. Crafted in a range of materials including O-Megasteel, 18k Moonshine gold, and 18k Sedna gold, the case is fully polished, emphasizing its dress-oriented character. The design is defined by sharply angled “dog-leg” lugs that extend outward before tapering toward the strap, creating a distinctive silhouette rooted in the original Constellation models of the 1950s.On the reverse, a sapphire crystal caseback reveals the in-house movement, allowing a view of the finely decorated calibre within. The oscillating weight varies depending on the model, with precious metal versions featuring a solid Sedna gold rotor matched to the case material. The finishing reflects Omega’s contemporary standards, combining industrial precision with decorative detailing. At 3 o’clock sits a traditionally shaped crown used for winding and setting the time. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial while enhancing the depth of the pie-pan construction beneath. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).
The defining feature of the Constellation Observatory is its return to the iconic pie-pan dial, characterized by a raised central section surrounded by angled facets that slope toward the hour markers.  This geometry creates a dynamic sense of depth while referencing one of Omega’s most beloved historical designs.Modern iterations introduce additional refinement through an engine-turned pattern applied to the faceted outer sections of most dials. This subtle texture enhances light play across the surface and is inspired by the historic Observatory medallion, with its eight-star motif echoed in the dial’s structure. Depending on the version, dial options range from classic silver tones to deep blue, green, and black configurations.Applied hour markers and dauphine-style hands maintain a clean and balanced layout, notably without a central seconds hand. This omission reinforces the watch’s minimalist aesthetic while placing greater emphasis on its symmetry and dial architecture.

Omega Constellation Observatory

The “Omega Constellation Observatory” (References below) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 8915 (for precious metal versions) or caliber 8914 (for O-MEGASTEEL versions) with 39 jewels, 25,200 vph. It comes equipped with a co-axial escapement, silicon balance spring, twin-barrel architecture, time-zone function, and a skeletonised rotor bearing the Constellation Observatory medallion. Certified as a Master Chronometer by Omega’s Laboratoire de Précision using Dual Metric acoustic testing, the movement is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss while maintaining a precision of 0 to +5 seconds per day. Power reserve can last up to 60 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is either a leather strap or a brick-style bracelet inspired by vintage Constellation designs, secured by a folding clasp. The bracelet version, particularly in gold, enhances the watch’s historical character while offering a modern, solid construction.
