Officine Panerai Submersible GMT Navy Seals
Among the new releases by Officine Panerai for their Navy Seals collection is the relaunch of a model introduced just last year. We’re referring to the “Submersible BiTempo”, which now appears in a different alloy and labeled as “Submersible GMT”. It features the same gradient anthracite dial seen throughout most of the collection, but unlike the other models this one has reserved some of its limited edition production to be sold exclusively to active or retired Navy Seals. The 44mm case is made of steel with an overall brushed finish. Mounted to the case is an unidirectional anti-clockwise rotating bezel with markings for the first 15 minutes, plus the dot at 12 o’clock emits a blue lume that provides enough contrast to be useful in low-light environments. On the flip-side is a screwed-on steel caseback engraved by the Navy Seals logo with the American flag in the background, plus the inscriptions “UNITED STATES” and “NAVY SEALS”.It comes equipped with Panerai’s iconic crown protector with the movable latch lock lever. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (1000 feet).Time is exhibited on a degradé anthracite dial with dotted hour index markers and rectangular round edged hour index markers for the 6 and 12 o’clock positions. This dial also is characterized by a gradient effect that starts off from a gray center and progresses towards a dark near black look as we near the flange. It also features an improved date window at 3 o’clock with orange numerals, which is slightly layered beneath the dials surface area to provide a better framing and enhance the user’s glance view. While on the opposite side at 9 o’clock we can find a sub-seconds counter with a bullseye motif also with orange highlights. Plus the arrow-tipped GMT hand with an orange outline, providing a constant and sparse use of this color in its overall palette. The blackened central hands, sub-seconds hand, hour index markers and GMT hand have all undergone a luminescent coating that emits a green glow, except the minute hand which shines blue like the aforementioned bezel dot.
