Officine Panerai Submersible Azzurro
We’re late in the summer, but Officine Panerai is going in for a deep dive with a big splash by releasing one of their heftier models. For all the old-school aficionados that were first drawn to Panerai due to its mastery of specialized diving watches, the “Submersible” is a worthy return to form. This model has been dubbed “Azzurro” which is Italian for “light blue” and manages to effortlessly evoke the sea.
The 42mm case is made out of the proprietary AISI 316L stainless-steel with a brushed finish. Mounted to the case is a steel unidirectional anti-clockwise rotating bezel with a graduated scale, which has been fitted with an opaque ceramic blue disc.
On the flipside we encounter a solid screwed on case back that has been engraved with Panerai’s iconic diver figure, as well as technical details. They have also stamped it with the “DIVERS PROFESSIONAL” inscription.
It comes equipped with the iconic patented Panerai crown guard and the wide protruding lugs, for a comfortable wrist fit. Water-resistance on this diver appealing watch can reach up to 300 meters (960 feet).
Time is exhibited on a black dial with steel round hour index markers and rectangular round edged hour index markers for the 6 and 12 o’clock positions.
There is a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position and a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position. Both the hour and minute hands, plus all the hour index markers have undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
Officine Panerai Submersible Azzurro
The “Officine Panerai Submersible Azzurro” (Ref#: PAM01209) is powered by the self-winding in-house mechanical movement, caliber P.900 with 23 jewels, 12.5 lignes and 28,800 vph. It is based on Panerai’s OP XXXIV movement and has been previously featured on some of the brands “Due” collection models. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 72 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is a black rubber strap, secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel buckle. It also comes with an additional black leather strap and swapping tools. This is a unique limited edition watch with only 500 manufactured pieces, currently receiving pre-orders.
