Officine Panerai Luminor Quaranta Bitempo Luna Rossa

Panerai has introduced a set of five fresh watches in collaboration with Luna Rossa. As the endorsed supporter of the Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing crew, Panerai has crafted these novel designs drawing inspiration from Luna Rossa’s boat materials and distinctive style. We recently took a look at the time-only PAM01342, now let's get a bit more complicated with latest Luminor Luna Rossa Quaranta BiTempo PAM01404, which reaffirms Panerai's role as the Official Sponsor of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team for the upcoming 37th America's Cup set to take place in Barcelona in 2024. The new model features a GMT function, allowing for the simultaneous tracking of time across two separate time zones. The collection has fully embraced two hues that establish a direct link to its core inspiration: blue to evoke the sea, and red, reflecting Luna Rossa's official color. The 40 mm case is made of stainless-steel with an overall brushed finish, which we can see throughout the full surface, casebands and short stubby lugs with those exposed screws. Mounted to the case is a steel bezel with a contrasting mirror-like polished finish. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features several jewels, exposed screws and a steel oscillating weight decorated with a grainy, brushed-like finish. It also comes equipped with the iconic extra reinforced Panerai crown guard featuring a detachable security lever. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 100 meters (328 feet).Time is exhibited on a sun-brushed blue dial with long white hour index markers and the Arabic numerals: 6, and 12. All these elements appear as cut-aways on Panerai’s iconic “sandwich” layered dial. Except for the upper-half “LUMINOR PANERAI” and lower-half “LUNA ROSSA” inscriptions, which have been printed directly on the dial.A touch of color based on the Luna Rossa team was added in the form of the red used for the central arrow-headed GMT hand and the small seconds hand at 9 o'clock. The contrast of that red is really enhanced by its white background lume portion. The central sword-shaped steel hands, the Arabic numerals, the hour indices markers, GMT arrow-tip, and sub-seconds hand have all been fitted with a white Super-LumiNova that actually glows green.  There is a date aperture at 3 o'clock position with very legible white numerals.
