Officine Panerai Luminor Chrono
Ready, set, go! Officine Panerai is back on the scene and expanding into a new chonograph collection, while also debuting a new in-house caliber movement, at Watches & Wonders 2021. They're all made of steel, but come with a few dial options to choose between. The 44mm case of made by Panerai’s preferential AISI 316L brushed steel with a solid case back, while mounted to the case is a contrasting polished steel bezel.
We’ve previously seen some Panerai chronographs with three pushers on the right-side of the case. But instead of opting for that “jam-packed” approach, these cases have been crafted in a more balanced manner by placing both chronograph pushers on the left-side.These models also feature the iconic Panerai winding crown protected by the classic bridge lever device patented by the brand in the 1950’s. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which assists with water-resistance on these watches reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet). Time is exhibited on Panerai’s characteristic sandwich dials in either white, black or blue (on the steel bracelet option) with hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 6 and 12; followed by a ring of smaller white or gray printed minute index markers, with slightly bigger makings for each 5-minute increment. Near the periphery circling the circumference of each dial is a tachymeter scale. There are two sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. The tip of the central chronograph hand and 30-minute counter sub-hand have been colored blue on all three of these new releases. In essence these are quite standard dial layouts we’ve seen before in previous Panerai collections. Lastly, the central hands of each version, as well as the sub-dial hands, hour index markers and Arabic numerals have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
