Longines Ultra-Chrono Box Edition
This latest release by Longines can be traced back to 1968 when the original “Ultra-Chron Diver” was released with caliber 431 and a water-resistance of 200 meters. Now over half a century later they’ve reached into their back catalog to reintroduce this watch with a new caliber movement and an increased water-resistance. The new “Longines Ultra-Chron” comes in two different options within a special wooden box that also contains an extra strap.
The cushion shaped 43mm case is made of stainless-steel with brushed surfaces and casebands, and polished accents, for a well thought out mix of contrasts. It deviates a bit from the original because it was slightly smaller measuring in at only 42mm.Mounted to the case is a unidirectional rotating bezel with sapphire insert and engraved with 60-minute scale in Super-LumiNova.On the flip-side is a solid steel screw down caseback that has been engraved with shout-outs reading “Longines”, “ULTRA-CHRON”, and a symbol to highlight this collection. It comes equipped with a screw-down crown and is all topped by a box sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet).Time is exhibited on a matte black dial with steel applied hour index markers, followed by a ring of white printed minute markings.
Overall this dial has a very grained texture rippling throughout its surface, which gives it a vintage vibe. Plus we see that Longines added an extra splash of color in the form of a red minute hand that also syncs up well with the red markings circling the bezel. A subtle touch that really enhances this watch's color-scheme.
The central rhodium-plated hands, hour index markers, and steel applied Ultra-Chrono logo have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.
