Longines Spirit Flyback iN Titanium
Introduced in 2020, the Longines Spirit collection has become one of the brand's most extensive ranges in recent years. Since its launch, there have been several editions, many designed with the needs of pilots in mind. These editions have included different types of watches, from simple time-and-date pieces to chronographs and even a GMT Zulu time model.
Longines has now unveiled its flagship model within this collection, a large and high-end chronograph featuring a column wheel and a flyback function, appropriately named the Longines Spirit Flyback. Initially released in stainless steel, this impressive chronograph is now available in titanium, which should be a good match for its substantial size. The 42mm case is made of grade 5 titanium with a mix of brushed surfaces and accents with a polished finish. Mounted to the case is a bi-directional rotating bezel with black ceramic insert with a 60m scale and a Super-LumiNova triangle. This is essentially the same case in terms of design and specs as the steel versions. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features an oscillating weight decorated with the atlas globe lines. It comes equipped with two piston style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, with a knurled screw-in crown embossed with the Longines logo. The flyback function allows users to reset the chronograph without having to stop it first, which allows for faster and more accurate measurements. This differs from standard chronographs that need separate activation for stopping, resetting, and restarting the timing function, while the “Spirit Flyback” can enable all those commands with a single button. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is on a sunray brushed anthracite dial with gold-colored applied Arabic numerals that have small cut-out diamond index markers beside them; while circling around the flange is a 60-minute scale with seconds/minutes markings. There are two sub-dials with snailed interiors: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. They also feature gold-colored outlines and hands, which give this hue a more subtle prominence within the overall color-scheme.This release is nearly identical to the previous steel versions of the “Longines Spirit Flyback Chronograph”, which followed the aesthetics of the retro-inspired “Longines Spirit” model. All these recent releases feature the Longines winged hourglass on the upper-half of the dial, while the lower-half features five applied stars in a row and the “CHRONOMETER” inscription. The central sword-shaped hand and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.
