Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Enamel Dragon
Jaeger-LeCoultre continues its tradition of releasing special editions for the Chinese Lunar New Year with the introduction of the Reverso Tribute Enamel “Dragon” for the upcoming Year of the Wood Dragon starting in early 2024. This limited edition timepiece, custom-made upon request, maintains the classic reversible design but features a black grand feu enamel dial and a hand-engraved case back depicting a Chinese dragon.While Jaeger-LeCoultre has a history of creating commemorative Lunar New Year editions, last year's release was similar. However, this new "Dragon" edition stands out due to the intricate combination of enamel and engraving, resulting in a more elaborate design compared to the typical Reverso models, yet it still exudes the model's timeless elegance and distinct character.
The rectangular 27.4mm case is made of 18k pink gold with a solid case back and a vertical length of 45.5mm. 
What makes this watch a unique classic comes in the form of its iconic reversible portion that can always be flipped to reveal something special. In this edition we encounter a dragon emerging from within the clouds, which has been engraved directly into the pink gold case. 
The background was formed by a black opaque Grand feu enamel, while the polished surface of the dragon’s scales contrasts with the rhodium-brushed texture of its stripes and almost creates an illusion of movement.
To bring out the richness of this engraving, the craftsmen at JLC employed a technique known as modeled engraving. This method involves using chisels of various sizes to meticulously sculpt the metal in gradual steps. What adds complexity to this process is that the engraving is done on a surface already coated with Grand Feu enamel, rather than on bare metal.
This task demands exceptional precision and a keen eye for detail to prevent any potential damage and preserve the flawless enamel finish. Crafting one of these remarkable timepieces requires an engraver to dedicate approximately 55 hours of painstaking work. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).
At the heart of this timepiece lies a black Grand Feu enamel dial adorned with 18k pink gold hour markers, elegantly displaying the time. Encircling the dial are smaller metallic gold-toned minute markers, designed with a railroad motif, meticulously placed around its edges.
Every detail, from the index markers to the sub-seconds, has been painstakingly applied by hand, emphasizing the craftsmanship. Completing the dial are the central 18k pink gold dauphine-style hands. Overall, what we have here is the essence of the simple and timeless design of the classic Reverso, focusing solely on displaying the time with refined elegance.

The “Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Enamel Dragon” (Ref#: Q39324D1) is powered by the in-house hand-wound mechanical movement, caliber 822A/2 with 19 jewels, 108 parts and 21,600 vph. Power reserve can last up to 45 hours, when fully wound.
