Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Perpetual Calendar
Jaeger-LeCoultre recently introduced the Polaris Perpetual Calendar, a striking addition to its prestigious collection, cast in 18k pink gold. This watch showcases a unique gradient green dial that houses an intricate perpetual calendar and a dual-hemisphere moon phase display. Designed for the sophisticated explorer, the Polaris Perpetual Calendar combines the timeless allure of traditional watchmaking with the precision of modern complications, making it an ideal companion for those who appreciate luxury that speaks to both form and function. The 42mm case with a thickness of 11.97mm is made of 18k pink gold with an overall vertically brushed finish. While the subtle polished accents accentuate the pink gold's warm tones, creating an inviting look that aligns well with the sophisticated design of the watch. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a gold oscillating weight, designed in the form of the “JL” logo. It comes equipped with two crowns and the advanced Manufacture Calibre 868, which can automatically adjust to display the correct date, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years. If kept running, it requires no manual adjustments until the year 2100. Beyond that, manual corrections will only be needed in centennial years that do not qualify as leap years. All topped by a box-shaped sapphire crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet). Time is exhibited on a green dial with gold-framed white hour index markers and the single Arabic numeral at the 12 o’clock spot. The hue on this watch is quite intricate, once you take a closer look many nuances are revealed along the gradient green lacquered dial. An inner rotating bezel is also visible through the sapphire crystal, which adds a functional complexity by allowing for additional timing measurements. It features a three-dimensional quality that is both visually appealing and functional, displaying the hours, minutes, month, date, day, and year with clarity. Notably, at 6 o'clock, the moon phase indicator displays the lunar phases for both hemispheres with a retrograde hand, adding a sophisticated and rare complication to the watch's array of functions. The "security zone" indicator in red on the dial is a thoughtful addition, warning against making adjustments to the date between 8 PM and 4 AM, thus protecting the movement from potential damage during this period. This feature underscores the practicality and detailed engineering behind Jaeger-LeCoultre’s design ethos.
