Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date 40mm

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date 40mm

The Polaris collection has become Jaeger-LeCoultre’s modern interpretation of the sporty everyday watch, blending the technical spirit of the legendary Memovox Polaris of 1968 with the refinement expected from the Grande Maison. Since the collection’s relaunch in 2018, the Polaris Date has served as one of its cornerstone references, offering a compelling mix of practicality, elegance, and diving-inspired functionality. For 2026, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces a more compact version of the model with the new Polaris Date 40mm Ref. Q9128981. While the watch retains all the defining characteristics of the collection, its reduced dimensions and striking blue lacquered dial make it an even more versatile proposition for daily wear. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date is housed in a stainless-steel case measuring 40mm in diameter and 12.9mm in thickness. The reduced proportions represent a notable evolution from the previous 42mm format, resulting in a more balanced and universally wearable profile. The case combines brushed and polished finishes throughout, highlighting the interplay of surfaces that has become a signature of the Polaris collection while maintaining a distinctly sporty appearance.Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback showcasing the manufacture calibre 899. Developed, produced, and assembled entirely by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the movement reflects the brand’s commitment to vertical integration and traditional Swiss watchmaking expertise. The transparent caseback offers an unobstructed view of the automatic movement while reinforcing the premium character of the Polaris Date. The twin-crown architecture remains one of the defining features of the collection. Positioned at 2 o’clock, the upper crown operates the internal rotating bezel, allowing the wearer to measure elapsed time while preserving the clean lines of the case. The lower crown is used for winding and setting the time. Protecting the dial is a glass-box sapphire crystal that enhances the vintage-inspired character of the watch. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (660 feet). The dial is executed in a deep blue lacquered finish with a pronounced gradient effect that transitions from a brighter center to darker edges. Rich in texture and depth, the display combines three distinct finishes: concentric circles, a grained central section, and a sunray-brushed outer ring. Together, these elements create a dynamic visual effect that changes constantly depending on the angle of the light.Producing the dial requires a remarkably elaborate manufacturing process. Seven layers of coloured lacquer are applied before an additional 35 layers of translucent lacquer are added and subsequently polished by hand. The result is a dial with exceptional depth, richness, and visual complexity that elevates the overall character of the watch.Large Arabic numerals, elongated trapezoidal hour markers, and skeletonised hands ensure excellent readability. All luminous elements are coated with Super-LumiNova, providing strong visibility in low-light environments. A discreet date aperture completes the display while preserving the symmetry and functionality that define the Polaris Date.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date

The “Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date” (Ref#: Q9128981) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 899 with hours, minutes, central seconds, and date functions. Developed, manufactured, and assembled entirely by Jaeger-LeCoultre, this automatic caliber is designed to deliver reliable everyday performance while maintaining a relatively slim profile within the compact case. Power reserve can last up to 70 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a blue canvas strap secured by a double-folding clasp. The textured fabric construction enhances the sporty character of the Polaris collection while offering excellent comfort and durability for everyday wear. The deep blue tone echoes the lacquered dial, creating a cohesive visual identity that complements the stainless steel case and reinforces the versatile nature of the watch.
