Among the standout novelties from Jaeger-LeCoultre in 2025 is a fresh take on its sporty Polaris Chronograph. While earlier versions leaned toward restrained color palettes, this new model introduces an eye-catching “Ocean Grey” dial crafted using a 35-layer lacquer process and enhanced by a mix of finishes and textures. Still grounded in the same integrated chronograph architecture and housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, this new edition retains the technical refinement of the 2023 update while delivering a bolder and more luxurious aesthetic.
The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph “Ocean Grey” (Ref#: Q9028651) is housed in a 42mm stainless steel case with a taut, muscular silhouette that blends retro inspiration with contemporary refinement. The case measures 13.39mm in height and features a thin polished bezel surrounding the dial. It is defined by vertically brushed surfaces along the case flanks and lugs, contrasted by polished bevels and pushers for a dynamic interplay of textures. The overall shape nods to the original 1968 Polaris while adopting sharper and more athletic proportions.Turning the watch over reveals a screwed sapphire exhibition caseback that displays the in-house calibre 761 in full view. The movement is finished with Geneva stripes, perlage, blued screws, and features an openworked rotor with the Jaeger-LeCoultre logo, all visible through the clear box-style rear crystal.
On the right flank of the case, the setting crown features Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature emblem and is flanked by rectangular chronograph pushers with polished surfaces. All topped by a box-shaped sapphire crystal safeguards, offering distortion-free legibility while enhancing the retro charm of the design. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
The “Ocean Grey” dial of the new Polaris Chronograph is a multi-faceted composition crafted through a meticulous lacquering process involving a clear base coat, four layers of color, and 30 layers of translucent lacquer.
This creates a remarkable sense of depth and richness across the surface, with a smoked gradient radiating from the center outward. The central area features a sunray-brushed finish, providing a dynamic interplay with light.
Encircling this is a grained hour chapter ring, also gradient in tone, which further enhances the dial’s textured complexity. The outer tachymeter scale stands in bold contrast with its matte black finish, matching the chronograph registers at 3 and 9 o’clock, which display subtle snailing and velvety textures, respectively. Bright orange accents are used sparingly on the chronograph elements to increase legibility and visual punch.
Applied hour markers and skeletonized central hands lend a contemporary touch to the otherwise vintage-inspired dial. All primary time-telling elements are coated with green Super-LumiNova for optimal readability in low-light conditions, while the orange-tipped central chronograph seconds hand provides a clear visual cue during timing operations.
