IWC Portugieser Chronograph Blue Panda Edition
For those interested in a blue panda dial, but in need of tracking time, fear not because IWC Schaffhausen also has an extra offering with a very similar look. The “IWC Portugieser Chronograph” is now available with a white lacquer dial and contrasting blue sub-dial, which enhances legibility, while providing a glossy sparkle that glistens as it meets the sun’s rays. The 41 mm case is made of stainless-steel with a polished surface and contrasting brushed case sides finish. Mounted to the case is a very thin steel bezel with an equally mirror-like polished finish. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases several jewels, gold gears, an oscillating weight decorated with a steel IWC medallion, plus a Côtes de Genève finish. It comes equipped with two piston style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, while in-between them is a knurled setting crown embossed with the IWC logo. This case follows a very similar design to the “Portugieser Automatic”, but comes in a smaller size. All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).Time is exhibited on a white lacquered dial with blue applied Arabic numerals, followed by a ring of blue dotted hour index markers. Circling around the periphery of the dial on a sloped flange is a black printed 60-minute track. There are two blue sub-dials with a snailed interior: a hacking small-seconds at 6 o’clock, and a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock. This layout differs from the “Portugieser Automatic” in terms of the sub-dials positioning, but it's still a “blue panda” dial. The polished lacquer finish and choice of white for the main color really make this watch shine and draw attention. The central blued steel feuille style hands offer a subtle, yet pleasing contrast to the regular steel hands seen on the nearing sub-dials.
