IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 iN Green
As the world navigates current inflation and the crypto crash, many are left wondering where to invest, but the watch industry is all in on “green”. We recently reviewed the “IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar” and now we’re following up on the simpler “IWC Portugieser Automatic” option with the same elegantly sun-ray finished green dial. The round 40.4 mm case is made of stainless-steel with polished surfaces and brushed sides with a width of 12.3 mm. While mounted to the case is a steel bezel with a near mirror-like polished finish. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It includes a steel oscillating weight adorned by the trademark IWC golden medallion. It comes equipped with a knurled setting crown embossed with IWC logo. An elegant design with short stubby lugs that provide a robust and efficient look. All topped by a convex shaped sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).Time is exhibited on a dark green dial with a sunray finish and applied stainless-steel Arabic numerals, followed by the characteristic Portugieser white railroad motif minute scale, circling around the periphery of the dial. This green hue is reportedly a new shade that IWC has premiered here and now added to their extensive color palette.Unlike the recently launched perpetual calendar, this Portugieser Automatic has a much simpler layout. The only other indicator comes in the form of a large small-seconds sub-dial on the lower half of the dial. It features the same railroad motif ring and a small steel hand. The central rhodium-plated pair of slim feuille hands further enhance the elegance of this dress watch, which has been crafted without any luminescent elements.
