IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 Edition “Chinese New Year”
As we near this year's end many brands tend to create timepieces that celebrate the Chinese zodiac, which for 2023 will be known as the “Year of the Rabbit”. To mark the occasion IWC Schaffhausen has crafted a limited edition “IWC Portugieser Automatic 40” with a burgundy dial and a thematically shaped rotor ready to tick, tock, and hop.The round 40.4 mm case is made of stainless-steel with polished surfaces and brushed casebands with a width of 12.3 mm. Mounted to the case is a steel bezel with a near mirror-like polished finish.
On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The steel rim is engraved with an inscription to mark the occasion “2023 YEAR OF THE RABBIT”. But, the main attraction appears as a gold-plated rotor shaped like a rabbit.
It comes equipped with a knurled setting crown embossed with IWC logo. An elegant design with short stubby lugs that provide a robust construction. All topped by a convex shaped sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
Time is exhibited on a burgundy red dial with gold-plated Arabic numerals, followed by the characteristic Portugieser railroad motif minute scale, circling around the periphery. 
In Chinese tradition this burgundy hue can symbolize happiness, success, or longevity. All qualities that contribute towards people experiencing good luck. This color scheme of burgundy and gold imbue this watch with very elegant aesthetics. 
Unlike many models in this Portugieser collection that include two sub-dials, due to the smaller canvas this dial employs a simpler lay-out. It only features a large small-seconds on the lower half of the dial with a similar railroad motif ring and a small gold hand.
The central gold-plated pair of slim feuille hands are a classy choice that compliment this model and provide an effective reading at a glance. No luminescent elements were added to this dress watch, instead IWC relies on the gold's natural shine.
IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 Edition “Chinese New Year”
The IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 Edition “Chinese New Year” (Ref#: IW358315) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 82200 with 31 jewels, 190 components, and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with the Pellaton winding system. Power reserve can last up to 60 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on the watch is a black calfskin leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching, while secured to the wrist by a butterfly folding clasp. 
It also comes with an additional calfskin strap with burgundy color graduation.
