IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Miramar

IWC expands its acclaimed “Colours of TOP GUN” series with the introduction of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Miramar, offered for the first time in both Miramar blue ceramic and stainless steel. This marks a significant milestone as the vibrant TOP GUN color palette, previously exclusive to ceramic, is now extended to steel, giving enthusiasts a new option that balances robustness and approachability. Retaining the technical rigor and aeronautical DNA of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41, these new models fuse modern military aesthetics with everyday versatility.
The case measures 41.9mm in diameter and stands 15.5mm tall. The ceramic edition (Ref. IW389409) is crafted entirely from matte Miramar blue zirconium oxide ceramic, evoking the tone of flight school instructor uniforms. In contrast, the steel edition (Ref. IW388117) introduces this TOP GUN colorway in a stainless steel case for the first time, finished with brushed and polished surfaces for a more classic aesthetic.
The full ceramic edition features a solid titanium caseback engraved with the signature TOP GUN logo, while the steel version opts for an exhibition caseback in sapphire crystal, offering a view of the movement within. These casebacks are securely screwed in, ensuring structural integrity under the pressure changes typical of aviation environments.
Both models feature integrated chronograph pushers and screw-down crowns, in titanium for the ceramic model, stainless steel for the steel version. Each model also comes fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, secured against drops in air pressure to prevent accidental displacement during flight. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
The dial of the TOP GUN Miramar models is rendered in a matte Miramar blue tone that extends the ceramic or steel case color seamlessly across the entire watch. It features a clean tri-compax chronograph layout with recessed subdials at 6, 9, and 12 o’clock. These house the 12-hour counter, small seconds, and 30-minute counter, respectively, with a snailed texture adding depth to the register design. A day-date window is positioned at 3 o’clock, providing calendar utility while balancing the composition.On the ceramic model (Ref. IW389409), the hands are outlined in Miramar blue for a tone-on-tone presentation, while the steel version (Ref. IW388117) uses rhodium-plated hands for enhanced contrast and legibility. In both watches, bold Arabic numerals and railroad minute tracks ensure quick reading. The hands and numerals are rendered in crisp white, enhancing visual clarity against the blue backdrop.A generous application of Super-LumiNova coats the central hands and hour markers, enabling strong visibility in low-light conditions. The luminous elements glow brightly without overpowering the dial’s aviation-inspired aesthetic, maintaining the instrument-like precision IWC is known for.

This robust column-wheel chronograph features a soft-iron inner case for enhanced protection against magnetic fields. It includes a small hacking seconds, a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour counter, and displays for both the day and date. Power reserve can last up to 46 hours, when fully wound.

Mounted on these watches is a supple Miramar blue rubber strap, secured by a pin buckle. It echoes the flight gear aesthetic of the U.S. Navy’s TOP GUN instructors while enhancing the tool-like function of the ceramic case. The straps also include IWC’s EasX-Change quick-release system, allowing for convenient swaps without tools.
