IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Lake Tahoe and Woodland
Since its initial launch back in 2017, when it came to ceramic options, the Top Gun collection by IWC had only been available in black with either a matte or glossy finish. But now at Watches & Wonders 2022, IWC has released ceramic cases in white or green for a pair of “Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition”.The 44.5mm case is made of either green or white ceramic, which is the first time in a decade that IWC has extended the ceramic color options. Actually they did it before with the sand colored “Mojave Desert” edition. The success of that limited edition experiment, paved the way for them to confidently release this new pair of options. On the flip-side is a solid screw-on caseback, which differs between these two options. The “Lake Tahoe” model has a titanium back, while the “Woodland” is made of Ceratanium. Despite these nuances and Ceratanium being a more expensive alloy, both models have been priced the same. They both come equipped with two inverted push-pieces to operate the chronograph and stop-watch features; with a setting-crown in-between them. Plus a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields. And just like the caseback these elements vary between the models by being crafted in either stainless-steel (Lake Tahoe) or Ceratanium (Woodland). All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The glass has been secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water-resistance can reach up to 60 meters (196 feet). Time is exhibited on either a black or green dial with Arabic numerals, a ring of index markers and the iconic IWC triangle between two dots at the 12 o’clock position. All these indicators have been colored in an off-white hue, which provides enough contrast for visibility, without disrupting the overall dominant color scheme. There are three snailed sub-dials: a small hacking seconds at the 6 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. The central and sub-seconds hands are all dagger-shaped, while the split-seconds is thin and straight. The anthracite central hands, hour index markers, and sub-dial hands have all undergone a Superluminova coating, for an enhanced legibility. It also includes a two-window, tone-on-tone, day-date aperture, aligned with the 3 o’clock position.
