IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team”
After over a decade of partnership between IWC Schaffhausen and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, they have finally developed a timepiece specifically for the team itself. Before it reaches any of our potential wrists this watch will be worn by the team’s mechanics, designers, race engineers, pilots and other essential personnel. To further highlight this joint venture IWC has designed the watch with the official sponsors, Petronas green color.
The 41mm case is made of grade 5 titanium with a sandblasted finish and polished accents. This is the only Pilot’s chronograph crafted out of this particular alloy. The use of titanium was very intentional since it is widely used in automotive engineering, due to its high resistance to corrosion.
On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Circling around the circumference is the inscription: “PILOT’S WATCH CHRONOGRAPH MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS MOTORSPORTS”, which has been applied directly to the sapphire crystal in the same Petronas green hue.
It comes equipped with two inverted push-pieces to operate the chronograph and stop-watch features; with a setting-crown in-between them. Plus a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields.
All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The glass has been secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet). 
Time is exhibited on a matte black dial with Arabic numerals, a ring of index markers and the iconic IWC triangle between two dots at the 12 o’clock position, which are all colored in Petronas green.
There are three snailed sub-dials: a small hacking seconds at the 6 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position.
It also includes a two-window day/date aperture aligned with the 3 o’clock position, placed between the IWC Schaffhausen logo inscriptions. The central hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.

The “IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team”” (Ref#: IW388108) is powered by a self-winding in-house mechanical movement, caliber 69385 with 33 jewels, 231 components and 28,800 vph. This is a variation of the chronograph family with displays for both the day as well as the date. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 46 hours, when fully wound.
This watch comes with two straps: a black embossed calfskin strap with exposed green stitching, and a green rubber strap. Both are secured by a sandblasted titanium pin buckle and come equipped with the EasX-CHANGE system, which allows swift swaps between straps.
