IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph iN Bronze

As planes keep flying overhead towards more and more vacation destinations, at IWC we’ve gotten yet another release of their smaller 41mm “Pilot’s Watch Chronograph”. Since it hit the market there have been several follow-up iterations. They began with the blue dials, steel cases, and slowly ventured out into new terrain. This latest edition comes in a bonze mix case destined to gain its own particular character traits. The 41mm case is made of bronze with a sandblasted finish and polished accents. IWC has even provided a more detailed explanation about how this alloy is a mixture of copper, aluminum, and iron. This mixture is reported to be 50% harder than standard bronze, but despite the mix this case will still develop some patina over time.On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It comes equipped with two inverted push-pieces to operate the chronograph and stop-watch features; with a setting-crown in-between them. Plus a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields. All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The glass has been secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet). Time is exhibited on a matte dark blue dial with Arabic numerals, a ring of index markers and the iconic IWC triangle between two dots at the 12 o’clock position, which are all colored in vintage-cream color that blends in nicely with the bronze case. There are three sub-dials: a small hacking seconds at the 6 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. A dash or red has been added to the color-scheme in the form of the sub-seconds hand.It also includes a two-window day/date aperture aligned with the 3 o’clock position, placed between the IWC Schaffhausen logo inscriptions. The central gold-plated hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
