IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “AMG”

Long lasting collaborations require shared values and the pursuit of quality. IWC and Mercedes-AMG have been partners since 2004 because they are committed to upholding these core goals. Now they’ve taken it the next level by joining forces to release the first ever Pilot’s Watch Chronograph in titanium with an appropriately themed dial. A true treat for horology and sports car enthusiasts alike. The 43mm case is made of grade 5 titanium which is a lightweight and resistant alloy, also used in high-performance cars. There are two push-pieces to the right-side of the case that serve to operate the chronograph functions, with a screw-in crown between them. On the flip-side is an exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The Mercedes-AMG logo has been emblazoned on the tinted sapphire crystal caseback, which also features an anti-reflective coating. All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an antireflective coating on both sides. The glass has been secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water-resistance on this timepiece can reach up to 60 meters (196 feet). These racing-inspired materials intend to bring the style and adrenaline of motorsport to the wearer’s wrist.Time is exhibited on a woven carbon fiber dial that resembles the same design material seen on racing chassis parts. The raw material is continuous carbon fibres, which are processed on weaving machines into textile structures that give the dial a characteristic woven “carbon look”. Its informative elements come in the form of Arabic numerals, followed by a ring of white index markers and the iconic IWC aviation triangle between two dots at the 12 o’clock position. There are three snailed white silver sub-dials: a sub-seconds at 6 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock, and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. The silver-toned gray outlined central hands and sub-seconds hands are all dagger-shaped, while the split-seconds is a thin straight steel hand. The central hands, hour index markers, and sub-dial hands have all undergone a Superluminova coating, for an enhanced legibility. It also includes a two-window day-date aperture, aligned with the 3 o’clock position.
