IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Oceana

Last year a new concept was launched by IWC that aimed at expanding their Top Gun collection with more ceramic options. They kicked off the series with the addition of the “Lake Tahoe” in white and “Woodland Green” in green ceramic and a diameter of 44.5mm. Now during the most recent Watches & Wonders they added this new “IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Oceana” in blue ceramic with a smaller wrist size.  The 41.9mm case is made of blue ceramic and further expands the color options made from this material. It’s worth recalling how IWC were pioneers in the use of ceramic, which they’ve now been extending into more monochromatic hues and various sizes.On the flip-side is a solid titanium screw-on caseback engraved with the “Top Gun” logo.It comes equipped with two inverted push-pieces to operate the chronograph and stop-watch features; with a setting-crown in-between them, all crafted out of steel. Plus a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields.All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The glass has been secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet). Time is exhibited on an oceana blue dial with white Arabic numerals, a ring of index markers and the iconic IWC triangle between two dots at the 12 o’clock position. There are three snailed sub-dials: a small hacking seconds at the 6 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position.The central and sub-seconds hands are all dagger-shaped, while the split-seconds is very thin and straight. The black-plated central hands, hour index markers, and sub-dial hands have all undergone a Superluminova coating, for an enhanced legibility. It also includes a two-window day-date aperture, aligned with the 3 o’clock position.

The “IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Oceana” (Ref#: IW389404) is powered by a self-winding in-house mechanical movement, caliber 69380 with 33 jewels, 231 components and 28,800 vph. This is a variation of the chronograph family with a display for both the day, as well as the date. Power reserve can last up to 48 hours, when fully wound.Mounted to the watch is a blue rubber strap with denim textile inlay, secured to the wrist by a titanium pin buckle.
