IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41
A pair of two new editions have been added to the “Pilot’s Watch” collection by IWC Schaffhausen. These watches are identical in terms of case and dial, but differ by coming attached to a strap or steel bracelet. Despite being new they look very familiar, since the main core aesthetics have been retained. The more compact 41 mm version was originally released in 2021 with blue and green dials. Now for 2023 it returns yet again to expand its offering with new hues and attachments. The 41 mm case is made of stainless-steel with radial brushed finish and polished accents, while the slim polished bezel maintains the original flieger design associated with this pilot watch. On the flip-side is a transparent sapphire exhibition case back, which allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features several jewels, golden gears, and an oscillating rotor decorated with the IWC medallion. There are two push-pieces to the right-side of the case that serve to operate the chronograph functions, with a screw-in crown between them. All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an antireflective coating on both sides. The glass has been secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).
Time is exhibited on a matte black dial with Arabic numerals, followed by a ring of white index markers and the iconic IWC aviation triangle between two dots at the 12 o’clock position. There are three snailed black sub-dials: a small seconds at 6 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock, and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. An extra touch of color appears in the form of a red dagger-shaped hand for the small seconds counter. The central hands, hour index markers, and sub-dial hands have all undergone a Superluminova coating, for an enhanced legibility. It also includes a two-window day-date aperture, aligned with the 3 o’clock position.
