IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “10 Years of Mr Porter”
To celebrate its first full decade of operations, the online luxury menswear retailer known as MR PORTER has partnered up with IWC to release a limited edition of their recently introduced 41mm IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph. Despite both brands being owned by Richemont, this is their first official collaboration. The result is this quite fashionable and uncommon bronze crafted timepiece titled IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph “10 Years of Mr Porter”. The 41mm case is made bronze with a screw on titanium case-back. In terms of design IWC has kept it identical to their other “Pilot’s Watch Chronograph” with this diameter. What make this watch unique (beside the MR PORTER theme) is the use of bronze, which will develop patina over time.
In this case (pun intended) IWC has chosen a bronze alloy that almost appears to be yellow gold. It definitely has a lighter hue to it that we’re accustomed to identifying as bronze. The titanium case-back has been engraved with an inscription celebrating the 10 year anniversary of MR PORTER, plus the limited edition number of each individual manufactured piece. It comes equipped with two inverted push-pieces to operate the chronograph and stop-watch features; with a setting-crown in-between them. Plus a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields. All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The glass has been secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 60 meters (196 feet). Time is exhibited on a matte black dial with a very “grainy” effect meant to mimic a textile look. After all this watch has been conceived to celebrate the MR PORTER brand which is renown for reselling the best international menswear available. Hence the sartorial aesthetics of the dial a-privately fit this celebrations theme. The overall dark color palette is then partially livened up by a gold-tone applied to all to the informative elements that blends well with the bronze case. As seen on the Arabic numerals and the iconic IWC triangle at the 12 o’clock position. There are three sub-dials: a small hacking seconds at the 6 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. It also includes a two-window day/date aperture aligned with the 3 o’clock position, placed between the IWC Schaffhausen logo inscriptions. The central hands, Arabic numerals and hour index markers have all been fitted with a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
