As the 2025 Formula One season approaches, IWC continues to strengthen its partnership with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, unveiling a new Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL created in collaboration with Toto Wolff, the team’s principal and CEO. This special edition builds upon IWC’s groundbreaking SPRIN-g PROTECT shock absorption system, first introduced in 2021, allowing the watch to withstand extreme forces exceeding 30,000G. With a lightweight Ceratanium case, a grained black dial, and new Petronas Green Super-LumiNova accents, this timepiece merges advanced engineering with motorsport aesthetics. Limited to 100 pieces, the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL Toto Wolff Edition is an exclusive, high-performance creation that celebrates the relentless pursuit of precision and innovation.
The 44mm case is made of Ceratanium, a proprietary titanium-ceramic composite known for its lightweight strength and scratch resistance. The case retains the bold, squared-off profile of the standard Big Pilot models, with a fully matte black finish for a stealthy, technical look. Measuring 12.6mm thick, it remains relatively slim for such a robust and experimental timepiece. 
On the reverse side, the see-through sapphire caseback reveals the movement and features Toto Wolff’s signature printed in white. The clear view of the calibre allows for appreciation of its blackened bridges and oscillating mass, while maintaining the watch’s high-impact resistance, thanks to its SPRIN-g PROTECT suspension system.
It comes equipped with large integrated crown guards, which protect the oversized diamond-shaped screw-in Ceratanium crown, a signature element of IWC’s Pilot watches. Topping off the case is an arched sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, designed to withstand changes in air pressure. The flanks incorporate additional protective structures to safeguard the internal components, reinforcing the watch’s rugged construction. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet). 
The black brass dial for this Toto Wolff Edition features a newly introduced grained texture, designed to minimize reflections and enhance readability in various lighting conditions. This fine matte finish reduces glare, reinforcing the watch’s practical aviation-inspired design.
The floating inner flange, slightly detached from the main dial, displays a 60-minute scale, adding depth and creating a modern, three-dimensional effect. This subtle elevation of the outer chapter ring ensures that time can be read at a glance with precision, an essential feature in high-speed, high-impact environments.
The applied hour markers have been reworked, now standing taller for better visibility. Paired with redesigned open-worked triangular hands, the dial blends classic aviation aesthetics with a more technical, high-performance look. The seconds hand remains subtle, maintaining a clean, legible layout while keeping distractions minimal. The AMG Petronas influence is present but understated, ensuring a refined balance between motorsport and aviation themes.
A bold addition is the Petronas Green Super-LumiNova coating on the BMG shock-absorbing spring, visible through dial cutouts. Both the hands and markers are also coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring clarity in low-light conditions. This glowing green detail reinforces the watch’s link to Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One while enhancing nighttime visibility. The result is a distinctive luminescent effect that sets it apart from past models.

The “IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL Toto Wolff x Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™” (Ref#: IW356201) is powered by the Valfleurier manufactured self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 32101 with 21 jewels, 154 components, and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with plates, bridges and an oscillating mass blackened. Power reserve can last up to 120 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on the watch is an integrated green rubber strap, echoing the AMG Petronas team colors while ensuring a comfortable and secure fit. The strap is crafted for durability and flexibility, providing a sporty yet refined touch. 
Additionally, the watch includes a black rubber strap with textile inlays, offering an alternative styling option. 
Both straps secure with a matte black PVD Ceratanium pin buckle, maintaining the watch’s monochromatic, high-tech aesthetic.
