Glashütte Sixties Small Second

The latest release by Glashütte Original celebrates the creativity and originality of the 1960s while enriching their Sixties collection. Taking inspiration from this exceptional decade known for its design and fashion, the watch pays homage to the era's influence. This new “Sixties Small Second” showcases a subtle retro look, while introducing the first model in this collection to include a small seconds. A simple complication that adds an elegant touch to its overall layout and design. The round 42 mm x 12.95 mm case is made of 18k rose gold with an overall polished finish. Attention to detail was all geared towards keeping this watch very sleek and simple. The protruding lugs despite their size, fully integrate with the case for a cohesive look.On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases some beveled edges, polished steel parts, and a 21k gold oscillating weight. It comes equipped with a knurled setting crown embossed with the Glashütte double G-logo. All topped with a slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).

Time is exhibited on a domed galvanized silver dial with gold applied indices and the Arabic numerals: 3, 6, 9, and 12. Plus a ring of minute index markers circling around the periphery of the dial, with white dots for every 5-minute increment.
These numerals chosen by the Saxon manufacturer are a very particular typeface meant to invoke 1960’s aesthetics.
The small seconds is placed at the 6 o’clock position within the galvanic silver dial, and is decorated with a vinyl-type finish. It's like a more concentrated snailed finish that provides an optical glare when looked at from certain angles. This is also the first time this collection has included a small seconds.
The central 18k rose gold hands and index dot markers have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.
