Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition iN Purple

Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition iN Purple

The Glashütte Original Sixties Annual Editions have become a yearly showcase for the manufacture’s dial-making creativity, using bold colours and textured finishes to reinterpret the playful atmosphere of the late 1960s. Over the years, the collection has explored green, orange, glacier blue, and stone-grey executions, each bringing a distinct personality to the retro-inspired Sixties Chronograph. For 2026, the Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition adopts one of the decade’s most iconic colours: purple. While the mechanics and case architecture remain familiar, the new dial introduces a vivid and highly elaborate finish that gives the watch an entirely new visual identity.

The polished stainless-steel case of the Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition measures 42mm in diameter, 12.4mm thick, and 48.5mm lug-to-lug. The overall silhouette remains faithful to the collection’s retro-inspired design language, with flowing curves, rounded flanks, and a slim bezel that softens the watch’s proportions on the wrist.Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback displaying the automatic calibre 39-34 inside. The movement showcases traditional Saxon finishing techniques, including Glashütte stripes, polished screws, bevelled edges, and the signature swan-neck fine adjustment associated with the manufacture. The fluted crown and piston-style chronograph pushers preserve the vintage-inspired character of the watch while integrating neatly into the rounded case profile. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides enhances the dial’s curved architecture and vintage aesthetic. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet). The dial is unquestionably the centrepiece of this 2026 Annual Edition. Produced in Glashütte Original’s own dial manufactory, it begins as a bronze blank that is embossed with a textured motif before being galvanised in gold and coated with translucent purple lacquer. The result is a rich surface with shifting tones that move between deep violet and lighter metallic purple depending on the light. The layout remains classic Sixties Chronograph, with running seconds positioned at 3 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, both enhanced by subtle snailed finishes. White Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock contrast sharply against the vivid purple background, while manually incised hour markers reveal the bronze-toned base material beneath the lacquer. The domed construction of the dial, combined with the translucent lacquer and engraved textures, creates impressive depth and light play throughout the surface. Gold-plated hands curve gently to follow the dial profile and are filled with Super-LumiNova, while luminous dots along the minute track reinforce nighttime legibility without disturbing the retro-inspired appearance.

Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition

The “Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition” (Ref#: 1-39-34-08-22-04) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 39-34 with 51 jewels and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a chronograph complication featuring central stop seconds and a 30-minute counter, as well as Glashütte stripes, swan-neck fine adjustment, bevelled edges, and polished screws. Power reserve can last up to 40 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a black synthetic fabric strap secured by a stainless steel pin buckle. The dark strap keeps the attention focused on the vivid purple dial while reinforcing the relaxed vintage-inspired character of the Sixties Chronograph. Combined with the polished steel case and domed profile, the overall impression feels expressive and retro without becoming overly theatrical.
