Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer iN Silver Blue
Since its establishment in 1845, Glashütte has earned a prestigious reputation as the bedrock for one of Germany's finest watchmaking traditions. A particular area of expertise within this region was the crafting of precision marine chronometers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Fast forward to 2009, and Glashütte Original's Senator Chronometer proudly carries the torch as the rightful heir to these historic nautical timepieces, evolving with subtle design refinements over the years. In its latest 2023 incarnation, the timeless Senator Chronometer sets sail with a captivating frosted silver and blue dial combination, appropriately applying a color scheme that evokes ocean waves and marine life. The 42mm case is made of 18k white gold with a mixture of vertically brushed casebands and polished accents. Mounted by a rounded off matching gold bezel with a mirror-like polished finish. On the flip-side is an exhibition sapphire crystal that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It exposes some blue screws, purple jewels, and an overall gray galvanized finish. It comes equipped with a knurled crown embossed with the double-G logo. Slightly underneath on the right-side caseband, aligned at 4 o’clock is a smaller push button that allows to quickly correct the date. All topped by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on marine chronometer layout in a silvery-gray dial with applied Roman numerals in solid white gold with a blue coating, while circling around the flange is railroad-motif minute chapter ring. There are two counters slightly receded into the main dial, adding a bit of depth to the design. On the upper half of the dial is a power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock with blued steel hand and includes a small day/night indicator (it displays a black dot between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m), while the lower-half has a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock with a similar blued steel hand. The blued steel pear shaped central hands provide a vintage look that adds an extra touch of refinement to the overall aesthetics. There doesn’t seem to be any luminescent coating, which may make telling time in the dark a bit difficult. It also includes the signature Panorama date window at 3 o’clock with a blue background and white numerals. This is a jumping date that updates precisely at midnight.
