Glashütte Original Panomaticlunar Forest Green iN Red Gold
Let’s shift our spotlight from Swiss made to shed some light on Glashütte, which is one of the few manufacturers producing luxury timepieces (outside of Switzerland) in Germany. The Saxon brand has always been known for its quality mechanics, but unique color-schemes have added an extra flair to their collections, as witnessed here in the form of the new “Glashütte Original Panomaticlunar Forest Green” now available in 18k red gold. After the stainless-steel release, the follow-up 40mm case has been made out of 18k red gold with a mixture of brushed and polished surfaces, for a contrasting effect. While on the flip-side they’ve maintained a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows a view to the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It has been decorated with polished/blued screws, a skeletonized rotor with 21k gold oscillating weight, a 3/4 plate with Glashütte stripe finish, with a hand engraved duplex swan-neck fine adjustment. The choice of this alloy manages to really pair well with the green dial, adding an extra degree of depth and prominence to the overall color-scheme. Other character building elements include the stepped bezel and firm protruding lugs, for a comfortable wrist fit and extended reach. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on a green dial (Glashütte refers to as “Forest Green”) with a black gradient effect (also known as a dégradé effect), which leads to the periphery of the dial being darker than its more saturated and bright center. This “forest green” hue is still a recent novelty that was only introduced a few months ago. Thus extending the color options for this fine Germanic collection. A galvanic coating process is also applied to enhance and add more depth which enriches the colors vibrancy. The “Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar” has quite a unique layout with an asymmetrical positioning of the watches complications. But, a simple glance and brief observation reveals an intuitive logic that becomes instantly familiar for telling time. Basically the whole index marked 12 hour display is off-center to the left, while the moonphase is in the upper right side. The applied index markers and the lance-shaped hands are all crafted out of 18k red gold and have been fitted with luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a 60 minute sub-seconds, that cuts into the index markers at the 6 o’clock position, while the rest of it remains partially outside of the time dial. Plus they've add a date aperture on the lower right side.
